Which side of the padel court is best for you to stand on?

Aan welke kant van de padelbaan kun je het beste staan?

During padel there is one player on the left side of the playing field and one player on the right side of the playing field, but how do you decide who should stand where? In this blog, Justpadel.nl will explain how you and your teammate can best position to get the most out of your game.

The best position for every player

For the attacking and aggressive player it is important that he/she stands with the forehand on the inside. In this way, that player can easily smash the high balls, so that you can put a lot of pressure on the opponent. It is also easier for the attacking player to handle the balls through the middle, as most players have more control in the forehand than in the backhand.

For the most controlling player it is important that he/she is on the outside with the forehand. This way, that player can hit back the tricky balls in the corners more easily. That kind of difficult balls require a lot of control.

Two right-handed players

With two right-handed players on the same team, it is important to keep the most offensive player on the left side of the playing field. For example, this player has the forehand on the inside, so that the high balls can easily be smashed back. The player on the right provides a bit more control, returning the balls in the corner with the forehand.

Two left-handed players

With two left-handed players, it is actually the opposite of two right-handed players. With the two left-handed players on the same team, it is important to keep the most offensive player on the right side of the playing field. For example, this player has the forehand on the inside, so that the high balls can easily be smashed back. The player on the left provides a bit more control, returning the balls in the corner with the forehand.

One right-handed & one left-handed player

With one right-handed and one left-handed player, it is important that both players stand with the forehand on the inside. The center of the playing field is very important, because this can cause miscommunication when a ball is hit in between. Most importantly, with these positions, both players can easily smash the high balls back.

Try it for yourself!

Justpadel.nl definitely recommends trying out one of the above setups with your teammate. Of course, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable in your position, but these setups can certainly help you get the best performance out of your game.
