Here we are again, ladies and gentlemen! Yesterday was another exciting day at Premier Padel Rotterdam. Our Dutch ladies, Bo Luttikhuis and Janine Hemmes, were lucky losers in the main draw. They fought with complete dedication for almost an hour, but ultimately had to concede defeat to a top-50 pair: 6-1, 6-0. Despite the results, they can be proud of their effort—it especially demonstrates the high international level they have reached.
The rest of the day saw no major surprises. Most of the seeded teams won their matches convincingly in straight sets. In this early stage of the tournament, the difference in skill between the top and the rest is still clearly visible: the favorites are steadily marching forward.
Yet, there was one match that truly caught the eye. A true thriller lasting 2 hours and 22 minutes, in which Sanyo Gutiérrez and Gonzalo Alfonso staged a stunning comeback: 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 against Martín Di Nenno and Leo Augsburger—the winners of two tournaments ago, no less. Sanyo, who is in the autumn of his career, proved once again that he has the best hands on Tour. And while Augsburger may have the hardest smash, that wasn't enough to secure victory on the slower Dutch indoor courts.
Today the programme again features some fantastic posters.
Paquito Navarro and Jon Sanz (5th seed) will take on Coki Nieto and Javi Yanguas (4th seed) – a top match that promises fireworks.
The ladies will also be in for a treat: Ortega and Icardo will play against the world-class pair of Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría.
We are also looking forward to the new couple Leal and Begramini, who will compete against Chingotto and Galán.
And finally, Stupa and Lebrón face Alfonso and Sanyo — can they spring another surprise?
