Summary day 2 Padel World Championship

On day 2 of the 2024 Padel World Cup in Qatar, some exciting duels were on the program for the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. The Dutch men unfortunately also lost their second match day in a row, this time against Brazil. Despite coming close to winning the set and Julian Prins and Bart van Opstal even having a set point, they could not take the victory. The Dutch women played against France, but they also had to let the win go, with a 3-0 victory for the French.

In Belgium, the men had a hard time against Italy and lost narrowly by 2-1. The Belgian women, on the other hand, booked a convincing victory over Denmark. The French teams had a strong day: the men won 3-0 against Qatar, and the women defeated the Netherlands by the same score. The German women showed that they could fight hard against the experienced Brazil. Despite an exciting three-setter, they eventually lost 2-1, but showed resilience against a country where padel is already an established sport.

There were no surprise results for title contenders Spain and Argentina. However, there was a tense moment when Ale Galán and his partner Mike Yanguas almost lost a set against the United Arab Emirates. This team is stronger than expected because the Emirates have naturalized four Spanish players, who now play for them with dual passports. This gave Spain a reasonably exciting match after all.

Day 2 showed how challenging the Padel World Cup can be, with European teams competing against strong opponents from padel countries such as Brazil.

On day 2 of the Padel World Cup in Qatar, Belgium faced Italy. Unfortunately, the match ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat for the Belgian team. Afterwards, we spoke to Joris de Weerdt, a player of the Belgian team, who shared his experiences with us.

In the beginning we were extremely eager to win, because this is important to us. We are fighting to get places 1 to 8 or 9 to 16, ” Joris said. “ We gave everything as a team, but unfortunately it was just not enough!

Looking ahead to the next match on day 3, where they will face the strong Argentinian team, Joris remains positive. “ This will mainly be a chance to gain experience. It remains cool to play against the best players in the world. ” He added that, after the confrontation with Argentina, the focus will be on fighting for a place between 9 and 16. “ I am confident about that, but it will also be difficult, because teams like the Netherlands and Sweden will also fight for it.
