Ladies and gentlemen, it's finally happening again: Premier Padel in Rotterdam . This week, we can enjoy the highest level of padel in the world at Ahoy. The absolute world elite will be on court, and several Dutch players will also be competing in the main draw on Tuesday.
But first, a step back. Because on Sunday, September 28th, the tournament began with the qualifying rounds. These are matches where players have one last chance to qualify for the main tournament. And that's no easy feat. For those who don't know yet: Premier Padel is the highest level in the world. The players here grew up with a padel racket in their hands. Even winning a game against such opponents is impressive. Yet, our Dutch players competed with conviction. Below is a brief overview of their qualifying performances.
Tygo Schoonhuis & Bram Meijer
Tygo and Bram were drawn against Mignano-Ortiz and Mena. They struggled to find their stride and lost 6-0, 6-2. A tough lesson, but one that proved to be a valuable experience.
Bo Luttikhuis & Janine Hemmes
Bo and Janine came surprisingly close against Godallier and Marchetti. They only lost the first set in the tiebreak, 6-7, and then the second set, 3-6. A remarkable achievement at this level.
Maaike Betz & Castillo Velarde
Maaike Betz played with her Spanish partner Castillo Velarde. They managed to keep up well in the first set, but ultimately lost the match 4-6, 1-6.
