NK padel
Last week it was time for the Dutch padel championships again! The EY NK padel 2023 took place last week at Peakz Padel IJsselhallen in Zwolle. For the second year in a row, the NK was a great spectacle there! This year there were even more visitors than last year; in a sold-out hall, 750 visitors saw who went home with the coveted prize pool.
Where the winners of the NK in 2016 received a can of balls as a prize, this year the prize pool was €12,400! The tennis federation invests significantly in padel with the aim of growing the sport. This is not only visible in the amount of tournaments that are organized, but also in the level of the players.
Currently, the Netherlands has three players who play padel as full professionals: Bram Meijer, Sten Richters and Maaike Betz. The first two were already on track with Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron, the world numbers one and two, which we talked about in our previous blog. Their good preparation in Bilbao turned out to be half the battle; Meijer and Richters can call themselves Dutch padel champions after last week! Nice detail is that this couple beat their own former partners Uriël Maarsen and Robin Sietsma in the semi-finals.
Big surprise
However, Meijer and Richters did not win without a fight; the big surprise of the men's tournament were Youp de Kroon and Julian Prins. This remarkable couple beat both the numbers two and numbers three on the ranking list. These men are sponsored by Siux and by us! We are therefore very proud of these toppers! To celebrate their achievements, you can now score their rackets at a discount via our website ! Use the code Voorjaar10 and get a 10% discount!
The rackets of the Dutch champions can of course also be obtained via our website. Sten plays with a high-quality RS padel racket . Bram plays with this nice Bullpadel racket .
Top duo Marcello Koek and Steffie Weterings won for the women. They were the big favorite for the title. However, the final score of 6-1, 6-1 paints a bit of a distorted picture of an exciting game; it was a fun pot to watch with lots of exciting games. Their winning rackets can be found here .
Both women look forward to continuing their padel ambitions internationally. Keep an eye on our blog to see how that goes on!
