Day 4: Quarterfinals and Qualification Matches 2024 Padel World Championship
The fourth day of the 2024 Padel World Cup in Qatar was all about the quarter-finals and the placement matches for positions 9 to 16. For the Netherlands, this was a crucial day, as the men's team faced Paraguay in the battle for ninth place, a position that is important for qualifying for the next World Cup. After an exciting match, the Dutch men booked their first victory of the tournament with 2-1. This win keeps their chance of qualifying alive and has given the team a big morale boost.
Unfortunately, the Dutch women were less successful. They lost their quarter-final against the strong Argentinian team 3-0 and are now preparing for a challenging confrontation with Brazil in the next round.
Belgium and France The Belgian teams had a successful day, with both the men and women booking victories and remaining in the race for high final rankings. The day went less well for the French team, with both teams – men and women – suffering their first defeats of the tournament. France is now fighting for positions 5 to 8.
Top teams Argentina and Spain The teams of Argentina and Spain remain undefeated and celebrated their fourth consecutive victories, thus consolidating their status as favourites for the title.
Germany The German ladies, who suffered a defeat the day before, continue in the battle for positions 13 to 16.
Day 4 of the Padel World Championship brought a lot of intensity, surprises and new opportunities for the teams. The tension in the tournament continues to rise, and all teams give their best in their hunt for the highest possible final ranking.

Interview with Joris De Weerdt
After the intense fourth matchday of the 2024 Padel World Championship, we spoke to Joris De Weerdt, one of the players of the Belgian team, about their performance and their prospects. De Weerdt reacted enthusiastically to matchday 4, where the Belgian team played convincingly and achieved success.
"I played the first match myself," De Weerdt shares, "and we won that in three sets. After that Geens and Azzola secured the victory in the second match. We are in a good place as a team and feel the flow," he says proudly.
The Belgian team is now looking forward to their next opponent, Sweden, on matchday 5. “Those will be tough games, but we are really looking forward to it,” says De Weerdt. He sees this as a great opportunity to strengthen their position in the tournament and is aiming for a final for ninth place. “A final for ninth place against the Netherlands would be great,” he adds enthusiastically.
With this positive attitude and strong team spirit, the Belgians are determined to continue their performances and further improve their position in the tournament.
Tomorrow we'll be back with a new blog, and with interviews of the men and women from the Dutch team.
