Ladies and gentlemen, it's finally that time again: Decathlon Premier Padel Rotterdam. This week, we can enjoy the highest level of padel in the world at Ahoy. The absolute world's best are on the court, and a number of Dutch players will also be appearing in the main draw on Tuesday.
But first, let's take a step back. The tournament already started on Sunday, September 28, with the qualifying rounds. These are matches in which players get one more chance to qualify for the main tournament. And that is no easy task. For those who don't know, Premier Padel is the highest level in the world. The players here grew up with a padel racket in their hands. Just winning a game against such opponents is impressive. Nevertheless, our Dutch players entered the battle with conviction. Below is a brief overview of their performances in the qualifiers.
Tygo Schoonhuis & Bram Meijer
Tygo and Bram had a tough draw and had to face Mignano-Ortiz and Mena. They didn't get into their game and lost 0-6, 2-6. A hard lesson, but another experience richer.
Bo Luttikhuis & Janine Hemmes
Bo and Janine came surprisingly close against Godallier and Marchetti. They lost the first set in a tiebreak 6-7, followed by a 3-6 loss in the second set. A great performance at this level.
Maaike Betz & Castillo Velarde
Maaike Betz played alongside her Spanish partner Castillo Velarde. They kept up well in the first set, but ultimately lost the match 4-6, 1-6.
Tomorrow is Dutch Day – these Dutch players will be playing in the main draw
Tuesday is Dutch Day at Premier Padel Rotterdam. Several Dutch players will be in action in the main draw. A great opportunity for the public to see their compatriots playing on the highest stage.
Joep de Kroon & Julian Prins
Joep and Julian will face a qualifier. Although there are no easy opponents at this level, this is a draw that certainly offers opportunities. This match is definitely worth watching.
Menno Nolten & Bart van Opstal
Menno and Bart will face a duo from Argentina. A tough opponent, but also a chance to measure themselves against the absolute world elite.
Marcella Koek & Steffie Weterings
We also have Dutch hopes in the women's competition: Marcella Koek and Steffie Weterings will face a qualifier. That means there are opportunities. If they play to their potential, a place in the next round is certainly not out of the question.
